All About Our Art Program

Aligned with the NYC Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in Visual Arts, our rigorous art curriculum covers a range of art making experiences as well as opportunities that promote literacy in the visual arts, cross-curricular connections, the integration of local and citywide arts institutions, consideration of careers in the arts, and most importantly, the joy of lifelong learning in the arts.

Through the understanding of the art elements and principles of design, we observe, analyze, and discuss a diverse range of art from around the world. We explore historically and culturally significant artists as well as current artists that are working today.

We practice art making skills and creative processes with various mediums while using rubrics, checklists, and finding inspiration in artists of study and celebrating the beautifully diverse world around us.

Lastly, we practice techniques for collaboration. We learn to support, inspire, and empower each other as a community of unique and creative artists through productive feedback, discourse, critiques, and various cooperative projects and activities.

Integrated with both the Culturally Responsive Sustaining Education (CR-SE) and CASEL (SEL) Frameworks, our art curriculum focuses on the whole child to develop their confidence and creativity as lifelong learners, independent thinkers, who are motivated by their social responsibility to our local, national, and global community.
